Mafic complexes: Discriminating Nickel fertile from barren systems

Professor R. Keays (Chief Investigator)
Funding for 2006: $132,624 (AngloAmerican Exploration Pty Ltd)

A set of tools will be developed to permit discrimination of rocks associated with Ni-Cu-PGE sulfide mineralization from similar rocks, which have no association with mineralization.  Of particular interest will be discrimination of continental flood basalts (CFB) that host mineralization (the Siberian Trap of the Noril’sk region, Russia) from those such as the Deccan CFB that do not.
