Field of study: Environmental Geophysics Support Offered: Instruments and software Preferred Program: Honours (1-2 projects) The method is of particular interest to engineering geology, whereby natural ground vibrations from road traffic and machinery are measured in order to assess thickness and shear-wave velocity profile of unconsolidated sediments. The method provides geotechnical data useful for foundation design, and for determining earthquake hazard (“shakeability”). Field data will be acquired at a site such as the Bellarine Peninsula, with interpretation yielding information of existence of paleochannels. Opportunity to participate in interpretation of earthquake hazard data from current collaborations with METU University Ankara Turkey, and the US Geological Survey, Utah, may also become available.
