Laric Hawkins Award for Michael Asten

Michael Asten, Professorial Fellow, received the Laric Hawkins Award at the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists/SEG/EAGE International Conference, Sydney in August. The Award is given biennially for the paper deemed to be "the most innovative use of a geophysical technique". Prof. Asten's paper titled "Passive seismic methods using the microtremor wavefield", reviewed applications of the method in engineering geophysics and earthquake site hazard studies which have been developed at Monash over a three-year period, with the assistance of collaborative research grants from Geoscience Australia and the US Geological Survey.
