2004 Whitley Medal for Pat Vickers-Rich

Professor Patricia Vickers-Rich was awarded the 2004 Whitley Medal by the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales for the publication "Magnificent Mihirungs: The colossal flightless birds of the Australian Dreamtime", Peter F. Murray and Patricia Vickers-Rich (Indiana University Press).

Presented for outstanding publications (in printed or electronic form) that contain a significant amount of information relating to the fauna of the Australasian region. The Whitley Medal is not awarded every year, only when a publication is submitted that is deemed to be of superior quality and makes a landmark contribution to the understanding, content or dissemination of zoological knowledge.

Pat also won this medal in 1994 for the book written with her husband Dr Tom Rich, "Wildlife of Gondwana".
